The Bluest Eyes(winter section)

December 22, 2010

MATCHING QUESTION:

1. Extemporized- to perform something without preparation.
2. Unabashed- not embarrassed or ashamed.
3. Genuflected- to lower ones body by bending their leg.
4. Gelid- extremely cold.
5. Inviolable- not capable of being violated or infringed.
6. Surfeit- eating until excessively full.
7. Epiphany- a divine manifestation.
8. Macabre- shockingly repellent.

1. In the passage i think Morrison personifies winter and uses metaphor to compare Mr. Macteer to winter because of his personality and characteristics, well actually i think she compares certain people to certain seasons because of how their personality matches with the seasons, an example from the book is when she says: “My daddy’s face is a study. Winter moves into it and presides there. His eyes become a cliff of snow threatening to avalanche; his eyebrows bend like black limbs of leafless trees. His skin takes on the pale, cheerless yellow of winter sun; for a jaw he has the edges of a snowbound field dotted with stubble; his high forehead is frozen sweet of the Erie, hiding currents of gelid thoughts that eddy in darkness.”

2. The boys harassed Pecola about her family, her looks, and her “level” in society. They picked on Pecola because she was poor and because of what went on in her house. i believe this showed us who she is, and a bit more of how she feels. It shows us that she doesn’t have a voice, she doesn’t stand up for herself. This type of bullying is still very common to this day, to my opinion i think people bully others because they’re insecure about themselves or what goes on in their own household.

3. Maureen Peal, oh boy. Everywhere we go today there’s someone who is just like Maureen Peal. Someone who is drop-dead gorgeous and gets whatever she wants. This is not always a good thing though because what are your looks if you don’t have a good personality?
On the book i believe Maureen is a snobby little girl, she thinks that just because she’s pretty she can get whatever she wants, well news flash SHE CAN’T.

4. they compared themselves with Maureen in a few different ways, they compared how Maureen is pretty, popular, and loved by others.

5. When the MacTeers sisters’ meets the prostitutes they were kinda surprised that Mr. Henry would do such thing, but they did not in fact tell their mother because they remember that their mom said she would kill them if they ever ate from her plates and since the prostitutes didn’t eat from her plates the sisters kept their mouths shut. This shows that they do what they’re suppose to do, because they know when to keep their mouth shut and when to tell their mom.

6. I believe that Geraldine has some serious issues, i mean, who puts a cat before their kids? that is just crazy. She loves her cat more than her own family, and she rarely ever loves anything.

7. Geraldine to me is not such a good mom. She gives Junior everything that he wants, and that to me is not so good because he thinks he can have everything he wants. But along with that she never shows him any emotion like she does to the cat. I guess Junior is frustrated about that so he takes his anger out by bullying Pecola.

8. Junior is mean and cruel to Pecola and he bully’s her. at one point he pretends to be “nice” to Pecola and gets her in trouble that’s when Geraldine yells at Pecola and calls her names and that makes Pecola feel like trash.

Hunny Reiken and her husband Elliot.

The wedding picture.

I find this to be such a cute story. i love the irony of Hunny having a twin sister and Elliot having a twin brother, and the fact that they all end up in love and married.
i wonder if they ever confused each other.. what stands out to me is the fact that Hunny got married to Elliot and her twin sister got married to Elliots twin brother on the same day and exact same time with exact same outfits and flowers, that to me is just so ironic.
Love this story, and i love when he says “You and your sister couldn’t tell us apart. And we couldn’t tell you two apart.” that is kind of amusing to me.
i chose this story because it was supper cute and ironic and sort of amusing.

Stephanie Meyer.

What do you think was the author’s purpose in writing this book?*
the purpose is to entertain the reader and to show Edwards deep deep love for Bella.

Who do you think is the intended audience for this book?*
everyone.

Rate the book from 1-10*
definitely a 10.

At the beginning of New Moon, Bella is happy and thinks the worst is behind her. She becomes extremely depressed and risks her life to “hear” Edward after he had left her. Bella’s friendship with Jacob becomes stronger. It seems the thing that does not change is Bella relies on males for her happiness (Jacob, Edward). Don’t get me wrong. I love this series, but this does seem to be true.

Describe the character/person who changed the most from beginning of the book to the end of the book. Explain the change and what caused it.

NIC SHEFF;
Nic Sheff changed the most from the beginning of the book to the end of the book because he went from a huge pot smoker, to doing cocaine and Ecstasy, and than he developed an addiction to crystal meth and heroin. Nic went through hell and back if you ask me. he stole from his parents went to rehab about five times and always ended up relapsing for some stupid reason. to me he was a very strong man. it amazes me how can someone go through so much and end up alive.
Nic Sheff relates his personal struggle with drugs and alcohol, he feels as if he is not wanted and he always talks about how he doesnt know what his purpose in life is. Nic always speaks of how empty he feels inside and drugs are the only things that “helps” and that makes him feel good and makes him forget about all of his problems.
Through out the book Nic looses everything he has, he looses his family, friends, job, school. etc., he goes to rehab about five times until he finally overcomes his drug adiction for about two years until he starts dating his “big crush” who is secretly doing drugs after she was suppose to be clean. they start using again and thats when Sheff relapses for the last time. after going through the worst times of his life nic was sent to a rehab out of L.A and away from his lover and thats when he finally overcame everything and to this day he is still clean and proof is, he is the one who wrote the book. THE END !(:
