December 22, 2010MATCHING QUESTION:

3. Genuflected- to lower ones body by bending their leg.
4. Gelid- extremely cold.
5. Inviolable- not capable of being violated or infringed.

8. Macabre- shockingly repellent.
1. In the passage i think Morrison personifies winter and uses metaphor to compare Mr. Macteer to winter because of his personality and characteristics, well actually i think she compares certain people to certain seasons because of how their personality matches with the seasons, an example from the book is when she says: “My daddy’s face is a study. Winter moves into it and presides there. His eyes become a cliff of snow threatening to avalanche; his eyebrows bend like black limbs of leafless trees. His skin takes on the pale, cheerless yellow of winter sun; for a jaw he has the edges of a snowbound field dotted with stubble; his high forehead is frozen sweet of the Erie, hiding currents of gelid thoughts that eddy in darkness.”
2. The boys harassed Pecola about her family, her looks, and her “level” in society. They picked on Pecola because she was poor and because of what went on in her house. i believe this showed us who she is, and a bit more of how she feels. It shows us that she doesn’t have a voice, she doesn’t stand up for herself. This type of bullying is still very common to this day, to my opinion i think people bully others because they’re insecure about themselves or what goes on in their own household.
3. Maureen Peal, oh boy. Everywhere we go today there’s someone who is just like Maureen Peal. Someone who is drop-dead gorgeous and gets whatever she wants. This is not always a good thing though because what are your looks if you don’t have a good personality?
On the book i believe Maureen is a snobby little girl, she thinks that just because she’s pretty she can get whatever she wants, well news flash SHE CAN’T.
4. they compared themselves with Maureen in a few different ways, they compared how Maureen is pretty, popular, and loved by others.
5. When the MacTeers sisters’ meets the prostitutes they were kinda surprised that Mr. Henry would do such thing, but they did not in fact tell their mother because they remember that their mom said she would kill them if they ever ate from her plates and since the prostitutes didn’t eat from her plates the sisters kept their mouths shut. This shows that they do what they’re suppose to do, because they know when to keep their mouth shut and when to tell their mom.
6. I believe that Geraldine has some serious issues, i mean, who puts a cat before their kids? that is just crazy. She loves her cat more than her own family, and she rarely ever loves anything.
7. Geraldine to me is not such a good mom. She gives Junior everything that he wants, and that to me is not so good because he thinks he can have everything he wants. But along with that she never shows him any emotion like she does to the cat. I guess Junior is frustrated about that so he takes his anger out by bullying Pecola.
8. Junior is mean and cruel to Pecola and he bully’s her. at one point he pretends to be “nice” to Pecola and gets her in trouble that’s when Geraldine yells at Pecola and calls her names and that makes Pecola feel like trash.
